The death of a 77-year-old man from Tekax and 25 new coronavirus cases were reported Tuesday during the Yucatan Health Ministry’s nightly briefing.

The state’s total confirmed cases has climbed to 386, with no indication the infection rate leveling off since last week when new daily cases began to range from 22 to 36.

Seventeen new patients were found in Merida, three in Tecoh and one each in Acanceh, Hunucmá, Kanasín, Ticul and Umán.

The Tekax man had complications from diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney failure. He lived with three people who do not have symptoms, but who are under strict surveillance, officials reported.

The fatality brings to 32 the number of people who have died in Yucatan from COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus.

Of the total cases, 207 have recovered and 79 have mild symptoms and are recuperating at home under quarantine and medical supervision. But another 68 remain hospitalized in Merida and in total isolation. The official number does not include a local woman who is also in the hospital and still in serious condition. Her case is part of Canadian statistics because she was infected in British Columbia before returning to Yucatan.

The patients range in age from 3 to 94.
