Mérida, Yucatán — A dance performance that upstaged J Balvin at his own concert has gone viral. The raggaeton star didn’t seem to mind that the young man from the audience stole the show.

To the rhythm of the song “X,” the young man’s smooth dance steps appeared to take the performer and his audience by surprise.

The young Yucatecan, Juan Manuel Ojeda Aguilar, has Down syndrome and his stage access was facilitated by the concert’s organizers.

Ojeda Aguilar is an outstanding athlete who has won several gold medals for weight lifting representing the state. He was also “Juan Manuel I,” part of the royal court in a past Carnaval in Mérida.

The music star, whose full name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvin, is a Colombian singer whose tour stopped at the Coliseo in Mérida. It is not unusual for the 33-year-old musician to invite a young fan to the stage.

J Balvin expressed joy over the moment. On his Instagram account, followed by 23.8 million fans, he posted a video of the pair and wrote (in Spanish), “This man stole the show the next time I will go more prepared 😂😂😂Bro he killed me !!!!!!!”

Another photo of the pair on stage was captioned, “Maestros que nos enseñan” (“Teachers who teach us.”)
