World Series brings top divers to Kukulcan

Mérida, Yucatán — The newly expanded Kukulcan Sports Complex will host the sixth and final leg of the 2015 FINA Diving World Series from Friday to Sunday.

More than 50 athletes from 12 countries, including 20 Olympic medalists, will compete.

Among the most prominent divers is Britain’s Tom Daley, 21, who took bronze at the 2012 London Olympics in London. Daley was the 2009 FINA World Champion in the individual event at the age of 15.

The FINA series started in March in Beijing, and headed to Dubai, Russia, England and Canada. The competition format features ten events: women’s and men’s 3m springboard, 10m platform, 3m springboard synchro and 10m platform synchro. Two mixed events, 3m and 10m synchro, is being introduced. Combined prize money tops US$1.5 million.
