Mérida, Yucatán — In time for the high travel season, direct flights between Toronto and Mérida will resume Nov. 27.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) announced that and two new domestic routes on Tuesday.

The Canadian route, by low-cost carrier WestJet, will run Tuesdays until spring. According to the airline’s booking site, a round-trip ticket starts at CA$883 Canadian (which is equivalent to US$674) including taxes and fees.

WestJet began seasonal flights to Mérida in 2015. Previously a traveler from Toronto would typically land in Cancun and take a bus to their final destination, or connect in Mexico City. The direct flight takes around four hours.

The new domestic routes link Mérida to León, Guanajuato, and Villahermosa, Tabasco.

The first begins Nov. 16 and will lift off Tuesdays and Fridays with Volaris airlines and its Airbus 320 with a capacity of 174 passengers.

Tabasco flights begin Dec. 15 via VivaAerobüs.

The announcement was made by ASUR’s director, Héctor Navarrete, and the state tourism secretary, Michelle Fridman.
