San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato — The San Miguel Writers’ Conference & Literary Festival will again attract prominent authors, established and emerging writers, industry experts, teaching professionals and avid readers this February.

The event is billed as the largest and most prestigious co-cultural, bi-lingual literary gathering in the Americas. Its attendees are primarily from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Workshops, master classes and roundtable talks and keynote presentations make up a week of immersion into the topic of writing amid the crisp mountain air of this charming city in central Mexico.

U.S. author Wally Lamb, whose “She’s Come Undone” and “I Know This Much Is True” were selected for Oprah’s Book Club, delivers the initial keynote address, which is followed by many others throughout the week.

Another keynote comes from Jane Friedman, the co-founder and editor of The Hot Sheet newsletter for authors, and the former publisher of Writer’s Digest.

Pulitzer prize-winner Rita Dove, a former U.S. Poet Laureate and the first African American to hold the title, speaks later that day.

Topics in 2018 will include “Making Your Prose Sing” and “So You Want to Be a Screenwriter.” Another workshop offers guidance on how to interact with a prospective publisher.

Excursions include a “cantina crawl” and a tour of San Miguel homes.

The San Miguel Writers’ Conference has grown exponentially since it began 2006 as a weekend event with 29 attendees. It has evolved into a busy fiveday gathering of thousands on the lush grounds of the historic Hotel Real de Minas.

Conference packages begin at $575 USD, with the “Whole Enchilada” for $795 USD. Tickets are also available for individual events. Read more about the conference and literary festival, which runs Feb, 14-18, 2018, at their website.
