The Merida English Library is a nonprofit English-language lending library, with more than 12,000 books and DVDs and a busy slate of activities. They are known for lecture series and a high-season home-and-garden tour, both of which are listed on this events calendar (scroll down to see).

MEL is open to the public through a nominal membership fee.

MEL is based on the classic local public library model, which for many in the United States and Canada is a hub of community activities, networking, and information distribution.

Locals, tourists and visitors alike can gather to find answers to research questions, tap into wifi, or just relax with friends on in the garden.

The title, “Five Tall Women,” is a metaphor for the strength, energy, and humor of five idiosyncratic women as they tell their stories through monologues, often interacting with the audience. Shalanda Baker Prof. Shalanda Baker will discuss "Renewable Energy and Green Development in the Yucatán. The talk is free and open to the public By 2018, nine renewable energy projects, including solar and wind developments, are due to be installed on the Yucatán Peninsula, a topic well known by the University of Hawaii law professor and Fulbright-García Robles Scholar.  Her scholarship has allowed her to research the intersections of energy reform, climate change, and indigenous rights issues in Mexico starting last fall.
