Mérida, Yucatán — A stunning Belle Epoque house in the Centro Histórico will be the stage for Fundacíon BAI AC‘s big gala fundraiser this year, and tickets are selling quickly. Already organizers have sold 70 percent of available tickets; last year this very popular event sold out weeks before it was held.

Pairing top-notch amuse bouches with fine wine, chefs from several signature restaurants including K’u’uk, Oliva Enoteca and Iiches will be there. Guests can bid for silent-auction items donated by local businesses.

The villa is the former Casa Esperanza, now called Villa Isabel. Its new owners, Pari and Robert, have stocked it with beautiful antiques from around the world.

This French-style Belle Epoch casona was built in 1890 by Manuel G. Canton Ramos, who also built the landmark Palacio Canton, now a museum on the Paseo de Montejo.

Villa Isabel has nine stained glass windows, the largest and most spectacular of which was inspired by Jean-Francois Millet’s 1857 painting “The Gleaners.” It took two months of careful restoration work to repair.

Relative newcomers, Robert and Pari moved to Mérida from the U.S. in January 2015 to live full time. And now they have opened their fabulous home to this major social event.

Yucatán Expat Life is a proud Platinum sponsor of this event. All proceeds go to Fundación BAI‘s important mission here in the Yucatán, preventing teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections through peer-to-peer education programs, HIV testing and counseling events, as well as integrative care for those who need it, all totally free of charge.
