We pulled it off!
It was a crazy idea that surfaced a couple of months ago: Let’s hold a Christmas party and raise money for charity. It seemed a little bold for our still-new organization to ask people to contribute their money, their time, their stuff. But we gave it a shot.
We printed tickets and asked our friends to sell them for 500 pesos. Then, we imposed on our friends with businesses in town to offer gift certificates or items to raffle off — which not only raised more funds, but turned our elegant party into a really fun game night. The energy in the room was palpable as we read off the winning ticket numbers.
We served exceptionally well-chosen wines from Taninos, and A Moveable Feast and Dadaumpa joined forces to fill trays of hors d’oeuvres for our waiter staff to pass around.
In the end, through the efforts of so many people, we had a lovely three hours in the SoHo Galleries and raised funds to support La Divina Providencia and the Caimede DIF Orphanage.
So our thanks go out to our sponsors and ticket-holders. We are grateful for your confidence in us to do something positive for Yucatán this Christmas season.
