Merida, Yucatán — Three suspects were arrested early today in connection with Santiago-area hotel theft that included cash and a parrot.

Preliminary data indicate that around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, subjects entered the Hotel Aventura, at Calle 61 between 74 and 76, and targeted two employees who had just finished their shift.

Reportedly, the subjects took around 5,000 pesos in cash and a parrot named Graybird.

The criminals had weapons of some type, the employees said. Once the suspects left, the employees called state police, who identified at least one of the suspects from hotel surveillance video.

The suspects were apprehended shortly after midnight, not far from the hotel, police said. The fate of the parrot was not reported.
