Suicide-prevention volunteers in at least three groups help people with depression and mental health problems in Yucatan.

Merida, Yucatan — Resources are available to anyone confronting self-destructive thoughts such as suicide.

These hotlines are also open to friends and family.

Suicides have increased both nationally and within Yucatan state. While it is a myth that suicides increase over the holiday season, headlines continue with tragic news from all regions.

Around 215 people have committed suicide in Yucatan in 2018, the highest number since 2009.
