Report: Horse rescued from abusive owner

Mérida, Yucatán — Officers from the Animal Protection Unit of the Municipal Police yesterday morning confiscated a work horse exhibiting signs of abuse.

Police were were traveling on Calle 57 and 50-A, by Mejorada Park when they encountered a sickly horse with open wounds, pulling a cart.

The horse, named Paluso, was then decommissioned under Article 70 of the Regulations for the Protection the Fauna of the Municipality of Mérida.

Felix Uribe Ku, qualifier judge of the Municipal Police, told the owner that his 4-year-old horse would be transferred to the Municipal Animal Control Center for medical assessment and recovery.

Municipal Police urge citizens to report cases of animal abuse reported to the 999 942-0060.
