The coronavirus in Yucatan once again broke a record when 16 patients were reported to have died within 24 hours.
New cases stayed in triple digits at 125, and now have exceeded 5,000 since March.
Yucatan health authorities found 50 of the new cases in Merida while another 16 were from Valladolid; nine from Ticul; six from Tekax and Umán; five from Progreso and Temozón; three from Chocholá, Tinum and Tizimín; two from Chemax and Dzitás; one each from Acanceh, Chichimilá, Dzan, Halachó, Hunucmá, Kanasín, Motul, Muna, Oxkutzcab, Peto, Tecoh, Tekit, Tixcacalcupul and Ucú; as well as one from outside the state. In total, there have been 5011 positive cases of coronavirus in Yucatan, of which 70% have recovered.
Two Merida men, one 43 and the other 91, were the youngest and oldest to die, respectively. Most of the deceased were in their 50s and 60s and had diabetes, obesity or another complication.
A total of 990 cases remain active in Yucatan: 711 are stable and isolated in their homes while hospitalizations rose by five to reach 279.
Others have been hospitalized and are awaiting a diagnosis.
