Several bus companies have began to restrict their trips to Merida.
The Autobuses Oriente line, for example, which has a terminal in the Historic Center of Izamal, decided to stop operating for the safety of its employees. The company was also suffering economic losses of moving its units without the usual number of riders.
At the Centro Bus Terminal there are only two daily runs from Izamal to Merida: at 6:30 a.m. and at 5:40 p.m.
Izamal Mayor Fermin Sosa Lugo announced that there are five suspected cases of coronavirus in the municipality, which were reported by the IMSS. One of Yucatan’s 10 COVID-19 fatalities is reportedly from Izamal.
After earlier orders failed to keep residents quarantined, Izamal has also imposed a 9 p.m. curfew to keep people at home and away from infections.
