Progreso appears elated at cruise ship’s return

Progreso, Yucatán — After being out of circulation for maintenance, the Carnival Elation cruise ship arrived yesterday with 2,400 tourists from New Orleans.

About 500 passengers who invaded the palapas and massage kiosks on the beach. reports Grillo Porteño. The reporter described an busy day of joyous tourists buying souvenirs, dancing and taking pictures. One group of 13 passengers, who enjoyed ceviche and beer from Budis under a palapa, said they are repeat customers of both the ship and the restaurant..

Though the sea was choppy, many passengers rented jet skis and rode in banana boats.

The Elation, built in 1998, will return six times in November, also docking in Cozumel and start at $249 U.S. a night for four- or five-night itineraries.
