Mérida, Yucatán — Three women selling travel packages have been arrested by police and accused of scamming victims for four years.
State police said the suspects, operating as travel brokers, continually changed their names and offices while stealing large sums of money from credit cards. The trio is also wanted on charges in 11 states altogether.
Abril Estefanía Quiñones Enríquez/Leslie Adriana Castillo Cortés, Katya Rodríguez Vázquez and Francia Noemí Ordaz Puerto were taken into custody in Col. Montecristo.
The women worked for a group who scammed millions of pesos from people in Monterrey, Aguascalientes, Coahuila, Chiapas, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Veracruz, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Yucatán, police said.
The women operated under aliases including Seglot (Global Tourism Services), Diamond Tourism Marketer, Global Booking Central, Corporate Travel Agency, Riviera Coast Travel, Travel Peninsular, PromoMid, Check In, Costa Maya and Target Travel.
They were caught after two victims met with them to negotiate a refund. One of them began recording the meeting, which provoked an altercation. Police were then summoned by onlookers who dialed 911, police said.
