‘Pocket Concerts’ bring chamber music to the Palacio de la Música

Merida, Yucatan — Guitarist Cecilio Perera kicked off the first season of Conciertos de Bolsillo, or Pocket Concerts, a new chamber-music concept at the Palacio de la Música.

The series will offer eight performances ranging from classical and baroque to contemporary and jazz, featuring musicians from around the world.

In October the concerts will continue with pianist Manuel Escalante, the Adrián Oropeza Quartet and the Khachaturian Trio. Alex Mercado and Tierra Mestiza will perform in November and the Cuarteo Yucatán will appear in November and December. Eva Zölner and Heather Roche are also on the bill in the final month of the year.

All performances will be 8 p.m. in the Music Palace’s concert hall.

Tickets will be on sale at the Palace one hour before each concert, or season tickets can be purchased at the Teatro Peón Contreras for 2,000 pesos.

A “Classic Ticket” for six recitals costs 1,650 pesos; a Jazz Pass for four events is 1,100 pesos and individual tickets are 290 pesos.
