Merida, Yucatan — Jesus Arredondo hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning, and Mauricio Lara allowed just one hit over six innings as the Pericos de Puebla defeated the Leones de Yucatan 6-2 on Sunday at Parque Kukulcán Alamo.
The triple by Arredondo came in the midst of a four-run inning and gave the Pericos a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning, Miguel Guzman hit an RBI single, scoring Arredondo.
After Yucatan scored a run in the fifth on a home run by Luis Juarez, the Leones cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Sebastian Valle hit an RBI single, bringing home Juarez.
The Pericos extended their lead in the eighth when Alberto Carreon hit a two-run single.
Lara (1-3) picked up the win after he struck out five while allowing one run.
Jose Samayoa (0-1) went five innings, allowing four runs and seven hits in the Mexican League game. He also struck out six and walked two.
For the Leones, Juarez homered and doubled, scoring two runs.
The kings of the jungle this week head off to challenge the Bravos de León and Diablos Rojos del Mexico.
