A destination beach wedding on the Yucatán peninsula cannot be properly planned without considering the sun and season. Here’s a guide to ensuring your ceremony is memorable … for all the right reasons.
Optimal light for photography is 30 minutes before and after sunset, the so-called “golden hour” in the world of photography. So when planning the start time of your ceremony, consider one and-a-half hours prior to sunset.
That said, a good photojournalist is prepared to handle any situation at any time.
“Our style is to go with the flow, no matter what the conditions. For 95 percent of our events, our clients look for continuity for the timeline to flow into the reception following an amazing ceremony service and the portrait session,” says Kelly McLaughlin of Del Sol Photography, based in Playa del Carmen.
McLaughlin recommends clients avoid exchanging vows in the direct sun, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Many of our clients are concerned about weather. Since most of our events occur in a tropical climate, we have embraced the rain,” says McLaughlin. “In fact, some of our most epic shoots have come from the rain.”
