Flights from Mexico City to Mérida are sold out. All week, airlines have reported no seats available to get directly to the capital of Yucatán.
The major airlines have placed passengers on waiting lists, reports Sipse, with openings beginning on Sunday at best.
ASUR regional director Hector Navarrete Muñoz, who is in charge of the Mérida airport, confirmed that November reservations have outpaced capacity. Weekend trips have been sold out all month.
“We are studying new routes, and new frequencies are being studied, but the truth is we do need more planes and more seats from Mexico City to the Yucatán capital destination,” he said.
Navarrete Muñoz recalled that during Hanal Pixan, flights could not handle passenger demand.
He attributed the high demand mainly to Yucatán becoming a fashionable destination throughout the country and abroad.
