Noche Blanca returns with more art and music

The sixth edition of Mérida’s Noche Blanca, a citywide cultural celebration, will pay special attention to our numerous art galleries. Most participating museums and galleries will stay open until 2 a.m. with a mixture of special exhibits and live performances.

At Galería Eskalera, numerous artists are participating in an “Autorretrato” exhibit, consisting of their self-portraits. Work on view from: Gabriel Ramirez Aznar, Renato Gonzalez, Rodolfo Baeza, Stefanie Schikora, Susana Salinas, Lorraine Toohey, Siegrid Wiese, Samuel Barrera, Viviana Hinojosa, Javier Barrera, Carlos Pliego, Emilio Said, Gabriel Marni, Adrian Bastarrachea, Milagros Lara, Renato Chacón, Pelucas Pilas Bubbles, Juan Pueblo, Samia Farah, Ernesto Novelo, Israel Koh, Ivan R. de Leon, Manolo Taure and Gerardo Gamboa. Also included in an artisinal-bread tasting from Escargot Panaderia. 

Galeria MeridaAt Galería Mérida, a exhibition of stone sculptures and drawings, along with a video projection and live experimental jazz, starting 8 p.m. All-local artists are participating: Eduardo Paredes, Erick Ismael Manzanero, Iván R. de León, Jesús Peraza, Joseph Kurhajec, Manuel May Tilán, Octavio Peniche and Reynaldo Bolio.

At SoHo Galleries, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m, a Salsa & Bachata show by Latin Fire Dance Project and from 10 to 11 p.m., live music by Mahaché Jarana Maya.

La Cúpula Cultural Center will join Noche Blanca programming for the first time, unveiling a contemporary art exhibition “Peninsula, Creators in Yucatán” will be accompanied with live music from El Bolillo Sonoro, Colectivo 521 and El Fin del Mundo. and wine from Taninos Para Todos.

At Tapanco Cultural Center, Markéta Loman’s exhibition opens at 8, and “dive bar” Casa de Agatá reopens, one free shot for Noche Blanca participants at 10:30. “Matron of honor” is bearded cabaret performer Roberto Franco in the role of gender-bending Dodi Maleanta. At 12:30 a.m., electronic acoustic music by Fonométricos.

Across the city, over 200 artists of all kinds are performing in 170 events spread over 65 sites: seven parks, 10 theaters, 28 art galleries, 11 museums and nine alternative forums, as well as 28 performances of street art. Horror movies will be screened at the General Cemetery.

Also new, a bike bath called “bici lunas” will connect Santiago and Santa Ana parks. Events are too numerous to list here, but there is an interactive schedule on their website.
