Merida, Yucatan — The two flu cases with symptoms that resembled the coronavirus have been declared just a normal flu, meaning Yucatan is officially COVID-19 free.

Three other flu cases in Campeche were also cleared by health authorities.

The suspect cases were women, 33 and 40 years old, from Italy and Japan, respectively, who are kept at home under epidemiological surveillance. They presented no complications that required hospitalization, officials said.

Throughout Mexico, five confirmed coronavirus have been documented. Two are in Mexico City, and one each are in Chiapas, Coahuila and Sinaloa. Nationally, 112 flu cases were ruled out for the coronavirus.

But 16 women and 10 men with the flu, ranging in age from 18 to 68, are still under study. The undetermined cases are in Baja California, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Mexico City, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Morelos, Guanajuato, Puebla and Coahuila.

The virus is now spreading more rapidly outside China, where the epidemic started, with mainland China recording just 119 new confirmed cases while hundreds of cases were reported globally.
