Mérida, Yucatán — Expanding on the city’s popular Sunday-morning BiciRuta, a “Biking City Club” will conduct tours on two wheels, in both English and Spanish.
Cooperativa de Guía de Turistas Certificados de Yucatán will implement the tours starting Sunday, Aug. 19, guiding participants through Mérida’s most iconic spots.
Starting with the history of La Ermita, passing through the city’s first road — the Camino Real that went to Campeche — the famous arch and Parque San Juan, the tour also covers the government buildings, the Cathedral of San Ildefonso and Casa Montejo, all of which surround the Plaza Grande.
Subsequently, the tour will cover the Church of the Third Order, the parks and neighborhoods of Santa Lucia and Santa Ana to the Remate Paseo de Montejo, the Twin Houses, Palacio Cantón, the monument to Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Justo Sierra O’Relly and then to the roundabout where the Monumento a la Patria stands.
Organizer Gerardo Bacelis said that Biking City Club will meet every Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
Tours begin at the Maya Era travel agency, Calle 62 between 55 and 57, Centro, and last approximately two-and-a-half hours. Cost is 150 pesos per person.
