An up-and-coming science student in Mexico is joining both Russian and U.S. space agencies to further his career.
For the second time, Jonathan Sánchez Pérez has been selected by NASA to represent Mexico in the international Air and Space International Program.
The student, from Aeronautical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Hidalgo, was chosen for his project that proposes a satellite to surround Jupiter and generate energy in a colony there by means of electrolysis.
The American space agency program, which will take place from Oct. 20 to Nov. 4, seeks to encourage teamwork among students and engineers to conceive missions and problem-solving ideas.
In the last edition, Jonathan participated with 45 students from different countries and took second place. Now, he is working on drones that could help maintain security in his municipality.
Originally from Tultepec, Jonathan revealed that he was selected to take a 30-day course at Moscow State University on Aug. 20.
In Russia, the 20-year-old student will carry out internships at the Moscow Aviation Institute and at the Bauman Institute, for possible postgraduate courses in aerospace, where he will study the Russian language and visit the Cosmonaut Aerospace Museum.
Jonathan placed first in the XIII State Physics Olympiad in Hidalgo, fourth place nationally in the Young Business Talents competition by Praxis and Nivea, and participated in the Mathematics and Computer Olympics at the UPMH.
