Yucatan remains at the orange light, with most data heading in the right direction, health official said Thursday.
The light, alluding to a traffic signal, means Yucatan remains at the second-highest state of alert, after red. As numbers become more favorable, Yucatan will join Campeche at the yellow light, further loosening restrictions on commerce and public gatherings
Health officials examine several metrics in determining how rapidly Yucatan can climb back to normality: The percentage of ICU beds occupied by all patients was at 34.1%, in yellow and decreasing. Total hospital beds were occupied at an average of 47.8%, in yellow and decreasing. Hospital admissions were in green, declining by 14.8% since Aug. 13. The coronavirus’ rate of contagion was at yellow and in decline. The only adverse data point was the rate at which coronavirus tests come back positive. It rose by a point to 53.4%, and in red. The caused the final score to equal an orange light.
The health department reported 26 deaths and 165 new infections in the previous 24 hours, fo 1,929 total deaths and 14,373 infections since the crisis came to Yucatan in March.
New cases on Thursday included 76 in Mérida, 20 in Valladolid, 12 in Progreso, seven in Tekax and Ticul; six in Tizimín; five in San Felipe and Umán; three in Peto; two in Akil, Kanasín, Uayma and Yaxcucul; one each in Bokobá, Calotmul, Chacsinkín, Chemax, Cuzamá, Dzilam González, Dzitás, Ixil, Maxcanú, Opichén, Río Lagartos, Sacalum, Tinum, Tixkokob and Tzucacab; and one from outside Yucatan.
The most recent fatalities included 20 men and six women from 43 to 90 years of age. They mainly suffered from other diseases as well, such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, chronic kidney failure, heart disease, COPD and the effects of smoking.
Mérida residents accounted for 14 of the deaths with the rest in Acanceh, Celestún, Izamal, Muna, Progreso, Samahil, Tahmek, Ticul, Tinum, Tizimín, Umán and Valladolid.
Recoveries totaled 87, or 11,462 since March. Current patients include 592 at home in stable condition and 390 in a hospital, down two from the day before.
The age of the patients ranges from one month to 99 years.
