While the number of new coronavirus infections rose, hospitalizations dropped dramatically for a second straight day as a higher percentage of COVID-19 patients were in stable condition and allowed to recuperate at home.
Accumulated infections shot past 14,000 when 188 more cases were found Tuesday. Daily deaths also rose as 27 fatalities were reported by Yucatan health officials. Coronavirus deaths in Yucatan now total 1,882 since April.
Hospitalizations dropped to 383, the lowest number since early July.
Of the new cases, 115 were in Merida, 18 in Buctzotz, 13 in Espita, nine in Kanasín, five in Valladolid, four in Hunucmá, three in Celestún and Progreso; two in Acanceh and Ticul, one from out-of-state, and one case in Akil, Cacalchén, Chocholá, Izamal, Maxcanú, Panabá, Peto, Tecoh, Tekax, Tekom, Tinum, Tizimín and Umán.
Fatalities included 18 men and 9 women age 33 to 94. Sixteen were from Mérida, two from Oxkutzcab, and one from Ticul, Peto, Tekax, Chemax, Temozón, Umán, Calotmul, Valladolid and Tixméhuac.
Current patients were broken down into two groups: 642 at home in stable condition and 383 under hospital care.
