The best place in Mexico to live is Mérida, Yucatán. There, it’s official.
For the second year in a row, the White City has topped an independent “most livable cities in Mexico” index, conducted by Gabinete de Comunicación Estratégica.
Mayor Mauricio Vila Dosal also came out well. He ranked as the second-best in the survey’s performance index, just behind the mayor of Nuevo Laredo.
The polling firm scored cities on a scale of one to 100 three metrics: quality of life, satisfaction with services and satisfaction with the performance of mayors. Broken down, the quality of life variable takes into account perceptions of safety, housing and employment opportunities.
Combining the three metrics, Mérida scored best with 77.6, edging out Saltillo at 77. Aguascalientes came in third at 71.6. In contrast, the bottom three were Naucalpan, 51.3; Chilpancingo, 49.8; and Ecatepec, 48.8.

For services cities and satisfaction with their elected leader alone, Nuevo Laredo came out on top.
The livability index collects information from 30,400 questionnaires in a survey carried out in the country’s 60 largest municipalities and the 16 boroughs of Mexico City.
