Merida, Yucatan — To entertain and enlighten visitors during the Easter holiday season, the municipal government will offer free tours in the Historic Center and along the Paseo.

Although the beach areas typically get the most crowds, the city also expects an influx of tourists during the period.

These are in addition to the daily tours around the Plaza Grande, also free.

“Tour Through the Heart of Mérida” and “Montejo, Past With Splendor” begin today in collaboration with the Cooperative of Certified Guides of Yucatán.

The first begins in the Municipal Palace and continues through the Plaza Grande, Casa de Montejo, Athenaeum, the Cathedral and the parks and monuments that make up the heart of the city.

The Montejo tour, which repeats an offering made during the Christmas season, starts at the Monumento a la Patria and passes through the Fiesta Americana hotel, the Quinta Montes Molina, Casa del Minarete, Museum of Anthropology, the Twin Houses and the Santa Ana Market.

These walking tours are offered Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., each lasting 90 minutes. No more than 25 participants are included in each walk.

These bonus tours end Saturday, April 27.
