The first-ever Mérida Foto Fest, organized by the visual artist Luis Alonso Anaya, will invite photographers to reveal the best images their lenses can capture in Yucatán.
The photography festival, sponsored the organizer’s F2 Estación Visual school of photography, runs Nov. 13-17 at the Olimpo Cultural Center, along parts of the Paseo de Montejo and at the school.
The festival integrates, in a single event, photographers recognized at a national and international level along with local amateurs.
Alonso Anaya hopes to gather between 800 and 1,000 participants, including the general public. Those interested in this discipline will also have access to free activities.
The long-term goal is to make the festival an annual event, to establish Mérida as a tourist destination and an international reference point in the photographic arts.
The Mérida Foto Fest also aims to create a space for the exchange of ideas and knowledge. as well as links between Yucatecan photographers and their national counterparts. However, it is also a platform for students and people interested in the work.
F2 Estación Visual has held photography classes since 2013, hosting student exhibits throughout the year.
Among the photographers invited are Pedro Meyer, Francisco Mata Rosas, Gerardo Montiel Klint, José Luis Cuevas, Fernando Montiel Klint, Mariela Sancari, Patricia Aridjis, Silvana Andrade, Fabrizio León Diez, Lizette Abraham, Mina Bárcenas and Citalli González. They will hold workshops and participate in roundtable discussions.
The complete program will be announced the second week of November.
