Some 150 real estate projects, including subdivisions, multi-use towers and commercial plazas, are currently being developed in greater Mérida, including the Cholul area, Progreso, and Conkal, according to the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI).
The local president of the association, Aquiles González Chacón, stressed that investments that have “flooded” the area reflect the dynamism of the Yucatan real estate sector and its capital, Mérida, as well as the arrival of residents with medium and high purchasing power.
Its urban growth has made the Yucatecan capital the most important city in the south-southeast region of the country, he said.
Of the 150 projects currently being developed, 80 percent are within Merida itself and half of those are subdivisions and apartment towers.
The real estate leader said that the sector projects, for the entire year, some 25,000 new homes will be built here, ranging from budget models to luxe. González Chacón said that in the city, empty building lots still await projects, particularly high rises — a concept he embraces.
“Vertical growth is one of the strategies of the main cities in the world to make space more efficient,” he told Sipse.
