The National Tourism Development Fund (Fonatur) awarded Senermex the job of carrying out the Mayan Train project’s basic engineering studies.
The consortium previously won the national tender to undertake the Mexico City-Toluca train’s underlying engineering studies.
Senermex will be paid nearly 300 million pesos / US$15.5 million for the work.
The task involves creating cartographic, topographic and geographic studies along the 1,525-kilometers / 948 miles of proposed railroad between Palenque and Cancun. The three routes encircling the peninsula will stop at 15 train stations.
Eight consortia, comprising a total of 33 companies, submitted proposals for the tender. Fonatur Director Rogelio Jiménez Pons said his agency took three months to evaluate the bids.
“The review of the proposals was carried out by a team made up of more than 50 professionals who specialize in legal, technical and economic matters,” said Alejandro Varela, Fonatur’s legal director.
The winning consortium is made up of Senermex Ingeniería y Sistemas, SA de CV; Daniferrotools SA de CV; Geotecnia y Supervisión Técnica SA de CV and Key Capital, SAPI, de CV.
In addition, an Environmental Impact Statement and the Consultation of Indigenous Peoples and Communities will be completed in accordance with national legislation and international treaties, he said.
