Merida, Yucatan — Julian Castro produced five runs and rival pitcher Nestor Molina dominated the mound to give the Rieleros de Aguascalientes an 11-3 triumph over the Leones de Yucatan in Tuesday’s series opener at Kukulcan Alamo Stadium.

The Rieleros’ Richy Pedroza had two hits and two RBIs, and the Rieleros had a big four-run fourth inning in the blowout victory. Julian Castro hit a three-run double and Carlos Rodriguez hit an RBI double en route to the six-run lead.

The Leones first scored in the fifth when Leo Heras doubled and then reached home with a hit by Jorge Flores.

Molina (4-7) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits over five innings. The Leones’ starter Miguel Pena (1-6) took the loss after a rough outing in which he allowed four runs and four hits over three innings.

Jorge Flores reached base three times for the Leones.

Prior to the game, players and fans held a minute of silence in memory of the iconic Leonel “El Coronel” Aldama, while the mega screen projected images from memorable moments of his life. The team wore black arm bands to honor their former manager.

The series continues 7:30 p.m. today.
