Villahermosa, Tabasco — Jose Aguilar had three hits and two RBIs as the Leones de Yucatan swept the Olmecas de Tabasco 12-0.
Jesse Estrada (7-1) struck out one and allowed just three hits over five innings to pick up Thursday’s win, the Leones’ fifth shutout this season.
The game started out slowly. Yucatan extended a 1-0 lead when Aguilar hit a two-run double in the third. Yucatan later scored in three additional innings to finish off the shutout, including a seven-run fifth.
Sebastian Valle hit his seventh home run of the season; for Xavier Scruggs, it was his eighth.
Tabasco’s starter, Marcos Machado (1-3) went 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits, striking out two and walking four.
The Leones travel to Campeche for another Peninsular Classic today (Friday). Starting pitcher Yoanner “Asere” Negrin faces Frank Garces starting 8 p.m. on SIPSE TV and La Comadre 98.5.
