Mérida, Yucatán — VivaAerobús flight 2307 on Wednesday was forced to return to the Mérida airport 46 minutes after taking off. No injuries were reported.
The plane took off from the Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport en route to Guadalajara. However, landing gear problems took the flight off track.
Security personnel from Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, the airport’s management company, said they did not know about the emergency landing when contacted by the newspaper La Jornada Maya.
An airport worker reported that one hour after landing, passengers continued on the same plane.
According to the Flightaware portal, a real-time flight tracker, the plane took off at 7 p.m. Wednesday and within three minutes, circled several times and ended up returning at 7:49.
VivaAerobús announced that the aircraft will be checked again before being returned to service. The airline also offered passengers food, lodging or reimbursement at 125 percent, as required by the federal Civil Aviation Law.
