Korean and Taiwanese tech companies are negotiating to build an assembly plant in Yucatán, taking advantage of Progreso’s port connectivity with the U.S. and Cuban markets.
The head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Ernesto Herrera Novelo, confirmed that Asian companies are in advanced stages of negotiation with state officials.
Herrera Novelo said that a Taiwanese textile firm has already installed a maquiladora — a foreign-owned plant that is set up to export its goods — in Valladolid.
State officials next year will visit both countries to seek more investment.
