The final day of the month ended with 34 more deaths and 240 more coronavirus cases, Yucatan health authorities said.
Another 33 hospital beds were filled with COVID-19 patients, on top of the 15 additional patients admitted Thursday, bringing the total to 584 and straining a health network already in crisis.
July represented a surge in cases and death. July 1 was bad enough: 13 died and 108 new cases were reported. More than double those numbers, every 24 hours, are now typical.
Accumulated cases were at 4,549 on July 1 report and as of Friday, that number stands at 9,767. Of 1,161 deaths since April, 700 — that is more than 60% — occurred in July.
In the last 24 hours, 17 men and 17 women died, ranging in age between 36 and 85. Those who perished also battled conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, asthma, chronic kidney failure, heart disease or COPD.
Yucatan remains under the orange light although health officials have left open the possibility of returning to red, the highest level of lockdown, by Monday.
