Jones, Juarez and Ibarra lead Yucatan to 12-8 victory

Aguascalientes, Ags. — Jonathan Jones, Luis Juarez and Walter Ibarra each had three hits Tuesday as the Leones de Yucatan beat the Rieleros de Aguascalientes 12-8 at Parque Alberto Romo Chávez.

For the game, Jones doubled and singled twice, scoring two runs while Juarez was a triple short of the cycle.

In a big six-run fourth inning, when the Leones extended their lead 8-0, Juarez hit a two-run blast, his seventh of the season.

In the fifth inning, Aguascalientes cut Yucatan’s lead in half with four runs of their own. The following inning, the Rieleros’ Michael Wing hit a three-run double, cutting the Leones’ lead to 1.

The Leones later added two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth, Jorge Flores hit an RBI single, while Xavier Scruggs hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Leo Heras in the ninth.

Starter Jesse Estrada (5-0) picked up the Leones’ win despite allowing four runs and seven hits over five innings.

The second game of the series is today (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m., with a duel on the mound between Miguel Peña (1-4, 7.46 ERA) and Héctor Silvestre (2-4, 6.13). It will be broadcast in Yucatan on La Comadre 98.5, the Leones’ official radio station, or on a TV streaming service.
