Progreso, Yucatán — An army of 700 volunteers, including Bepensa employees, joined for the ninth annual beach cleaning campaign for the International Day of Coastal Cleanup.
The American Consulate will award a prize for the best photograph of the cleaning. The event was sponsored by the Bepensa Foundation. Like last year, seven kilometers from the coast was cleared
The American consul in Mérida, Sonya Tsiros, came into port with her husband and their two children to join the campaign. She said that for the United States, “the port is very important” and that the cleanup campaign also promotes Progreso tourism.
