The cities of Mérida and Campeche will join to celebrate the Primer Gran Fondo MX de Ciclismo 2014, which will travel 100 miles or about 160 kilometers on Sunday.

Cyclists from Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Campeche, Puebla, Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco and Oaxaca were invited by the organizers to participate, which will have its starting line in the Historic Center of Campeche, on Calle 55 near the Parque de la Independencia.

The shotgun start will be at 7:00 a.m. and cyclists will arrive in about six hours in Mérida if riders maintain a pace of 35 miles per hour.

The event will compete in three categories: the Gran Fondo, which will travel the 160 miles between Campeche and Mérida; the Environment Fondo, which will tour Campeche Calkini, 100 miles; and Picolismo (long-distance), from the point of departure to the Baseball Stadium in Campeche city.

The event culminates at the Monumento a la Patria.
