Gas stations caught shorting customers

Mérida, Yucatán — Profeco’s “full liters” program has sanctioned 38 of the 123 gas stations they inspected for selling customers short.

More than 30 percent of the area’s pumps incorrectly gauged the amount of gas flowing through its pumps and into customers’ tanks — and not in the customers’ favor.

From January to November, the consumer protection agency immobilized 41 hoses for failing inspection by both Profeco and the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Gas stations were cited in Valladolid, San Felipe, Conkal, Izamal, Dzilam de Bravo, Tizimin, Kanasín and Mérida, where the main reason for suspension is for selling incomplete liters to customers.

Other irregularities at service stations included not displaying prices or hologram inspection stickers, or for refusing to cooperate with Profeco.

A searchable database of gas stations is on Profeco’s website.
