Mérida, Yucatán — A shipment of methadone, oxycodone and opioid substances were hidden inside packaged cupcakes until an on-duty canine sniffed them out, said the Mexican Army and the National Guard.

The finding was made at a courier company’s operation at the Mérida International Airport.

The package was headed to the Azcapotzalco mayor’s office in northwest Mexico City, local media reports.

When the package was opened, eight packages were found, each with three submarine-style cupcakes inside containing a substance that tested positive for narcotics.

The cupcakes were sent to the Attorney General of the State of Yucatan for further investigation.
