Merida, Yucatan — A neighborhood crime-watch group has numerous photos of a woman who they suspect is on a burglary spree.
The Ladrones y delitos de barrio de Santiago en Merida, Yucatan Facebook group shared surveillance images of a woman with dark features and wearing a purple shirt with a NY AERO emblem, and white pants.
The suspect was seen Friday walking on Calle 74A between 57 and 59A in the Centro Historico. She was then seen approaching a yellow house where two weeks earlier witnesses said she had clipped the mosquito screens. Her entry into the house is captured on video.
It took the suspect six minutes to make her way through the door, where she allegedly stole a wallet with several credit cards and 500 pesos, and a folder with approximately 2,500 pesos and 50 U.S. dollars. The occupant of the house, an elderly woman, was sleeping in another room, a Facebook group member said.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call 999-990-3717.
The Facebook group’s volunteers also work with police to catch roof-hoppers, muggers, trash dumpers and vandals who operate in Merida’s oldest residential neighborhood.
While crime is relatively low in the Centro, theft is expected to rise as thousands of people are thrown out of work during the coronavirus contingencies.
