The National Guard seized numerous fake drivers licenses and voter ID cards headed for Merida, local media reported.

The phony credentials were confiscated in the parcel room at the Merida International Airport. The cards were purportedly from different states, packed in an envelope sent from the State of Mexico.

Anomalies were observed in the cards’ watermarks, QR codes, photographs and in plastic laminate, according to a statement. Information on the cards could not be verified with the National Electoral Institute, the National Guard said in a statement.

The shipment was made available to the Yucatan State Attorney General’s Office for safekeeping.
