Centro road projects to pause for holiday shoppers

Mérida, Yucatán — About 10 kilometers of Centro Histórico roadways are being resurfaced with hydraulic concrete as part of a 11.6-million-peso project.

Roads are a constant concern in the historic center as more than 300,000 people pass through the aging grid of streets daily.

The project will pause during Buen Fin promotions and for holiday shoppers in December. That gives workers the rest of November, and then from January onward, to complete the job.

For November, 2.3 kilometers of roads will be intermittently closed at Calle 54A, between 65 and 67; Calle 69, between 56 and 62; 56-A, between 67 and 69; Calle 58, between 67 and 71; Calle 63, between 64 and 70; Calle 61, between 66 and 70; Calle 64, between 66 and 70; and Calle 66A, between 61 and 63.

The second stage will be from Jan. 7 to 31 Oct. 2017 and repaving work will be performed on just over 8.3 kilometers at Calle 67, between 44 and 50; Calle 46, between 67 and 71; Calle 52, between 69 and 95; 77, Calle 64A and 50; Calle 64, between 77 and 81; Calle 69, between 66 and Ave. Itzaes; Calle 57, between 72 and 78; Calle 78, 59A and 55; 73, between 58 and 68; Calle 71, between 58 and 66; Calle 48, between 61 and 63; Calle 48, between 53 and 59; Calle 49, between 56 and 60; Calle 56, between 49 and 51, and Calle 51, between 54 and 60.
