Mérida, Yucatán — A part the Hotel Las Monjas’ facade fell to the pavement and part of the street during a remodeling job gone wrong.

The hotel, on Calle 66A between 61 and 63 in the Centro Histórico, is apparently closed for business but under repair.

Although the mishap happened in the middle of the afternoon, apparently the sidewalk was empty and no injuries were reported.

According to Diario de Yucatán, workers were demolishing the roof Thursday around 3 p.m. when a beam shifted and about a square meter of cement spilled down.

Local police officers arrived to verify the incident, and minutes later representatives of the Municipal Civil Protection agency arrived to assess damages.
