While Yucatan remains under a fairly restrictive “orange” level of coronavirus alert, neighboring Campeche was the first state in Mexico to be given a “green” light.

Sparsely populated Campeche was allowed to return to normal social and economic activity due to the region’s decrease in COVID-19 infections, the federal Health Ministry said Friday.

Earlier, Campeche was the first state to reach the “yellow” stage in the country’s four-color traffic light system indicating positive coronavirus trends. This week, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Aguascalientes, Puebla, Sinaloa, Durango, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Oaxaca and Chiapas remain at that stage. No states or regions are under the red alert.

But Yucatan remains at the second-highest level of alert, as does Baja California Sur, Zacatecas, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, State of Mexico, CDMX, Guerrero, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Veracruz and Quintana Roo.

On Friday, Yucatan health officials announced 113 new cases and three deaths, the lowest number of mortalities recorded since June.

One new case was found in the municipality of Cantamayec, leaving Dzilam de Bravo as the only Yucatecan city without the virus.

Fatal victims ranged in age between 50 and 64 years. Two resided in Mérida while the other was from Progreso.

Active cases comprise 744 patients at home with mild symptoms and 192 in the hospital, one fewer than the day before and 49 fewer than the previous Friday.
