Vaquería Night: Dancing at the Palacio Municipal every Monday
Mon., March 23 @ 9:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 9:00 pm on Monday, repeating indefinitely
A local dance, the Vaquería, is performed every week in the street in front of the Palacio Municipal, facing the Plaza Grande.
This colorful dance has its origins in the Yucatán’s colonial days. Once a year, villagers were permitted by the Spanish elite to celebrate, and the wives of the local cowboys (vaqueros) were in charge of organizing the festivities and would don their most elaborate dresses, before leading their husbands in the dance.
Today, the dance is performed for free, under the auspices of the city’s cultural organizers.
NOTE: Costs are in pesos. Events are occasionally postponed or canceled, or a listing could contain an error, so confirm with the organizer when possible.
