Tikin Xic Fair celebrates seafood in Progreso
Sat., July 7, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Local restaurants will offer their best dishes to between 10,000 and 20,000 visitors at Progreso’s first Tikin Xic Fair on Saturday.
To be held in the La Paz park on the malecon, seafood festival is part of the port city’s 148th anniversary celebrations. The fair, “”teekeen sheek” is named for a Mayan dish in which a whole fish is marinated with adobo de Achiote and sour oranges, and then wrapped in a banana leaf and roasted in the earth beneath a wood fire.
Of course, the 25 or so local restaurants represented at Tikin Xic will offer a broader variety than just that.
Tourism Director Cintia Sosa Gómez explained said that “our gastronomy is part of tourism. The seafood here is of high quality and fresh.”
