Movie night at Il Caffé, a charming Italian restaurant on a pedestrian road behind the Peón Contreras theater. Have dinner on your own at 6 to enjoy a free movie, aimed at English-speaking audiences, at 7.
This night brings us the multiple award winning Brazilian film “Central Station” (1998), starring Fernanda Montenegro as Isadora, a scribe for the illiterate at Rio’s Central Station, where she meets a young homeless boy who is searching for his father. Recipient of two Oscar nominations (Best Actress and Best Foreign Language Film) and winner of a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and 34 other international film festival awards, “Central Station” is a heart-warming and poignant story set in the underbelly of Rio de Janeiro. This was Fernanda Montenegro’s final film, and a worthy finale to an illustrious career. “A must-see,” says movie-night organizer Nic Lavroff.
