MEL Lecture Series: Yoga in the West
Wed., February 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
The Merida English Library Wednesday lecture series continues with Alma Duran, Ph.D., discussing the topic of yoga in today’s world.
In the talk, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, Dr. Duran will present an analysis of how yoga has become a transnational product. She will highlight how yoga was brought to the West, then to Mexico and after that to Merida.
Free and open to the public; donations encouraged.
For the past seven years, MEL has sponsored a lecture series from mid-October to mid-April. We try to include a wide range of speakers and subjects. There are always a couple of talks about some aspect of the history of Mexico or the Yucatan or the city of Merida. And we usually have a lecture or two about the Maya – their architecture, spiritual beliefs or customs. Sometimes an archaeologist will discuss something exciting about a newly discovered ruin or offer a new look at a well-known site. Mixed in among these “academic” topics might be talks about backyard composting in the city, or the state of solar power technology, or recent changes in Mexico’s immigration laws, or how to become a “birder.”
Most of the programs are free; for some, there is a nominal suggested donation.
Wednesdays, 7 pm to 8 pm (unless otherwise noted)
NOTE: Costs are in pesos. Events are occasionally postponed or canceled, or a listing could contain an error, so confirm with the organizer when possible.
