Mérida, Yucatán — After a seven-year absence, boxing returns to the Plaza de Toros.

Darwin “Bombardero” Berrón and William “Terrible” Puch will face off in a program called “The New Generation,” in English.

The announcement, made in the Olimpo Cultural Center press room, marks the first time organizer Max Boxing and the city will work together.

Three thousand free tickets, while they last, are available in the municipal sports units in Francisco de Montejo, San Jose Tecoh, Caucel, Los Heroes, Las Americas and the Human Development Directorate, Calle 65 between 40 and 42, Centro.

The presentation was attended by Alejandro Novelo Rivero, in charge of the Directorate of Human Development; Santiago Basto Mejía, head of the local boxing commission; Jorge Puga Valle, representatives of Max Boxing, and the boxers.

Matches begin 7 p.m. Friday. Darwin will face welterweight Jorge “Bestia” Gonzalez followed by Puch vs. Juan “Tornado” Aguilar at flyweight, both in eight rounds. Another five fights, of six or four rounds, are also planned.
